The Department of Meteorology says there is no reason to panic about the Northeast monsoon, even though it is expected to become more active in the coming days.
According to Duty Forecaster Udeni Weerasinghe, the Northeast Monsoon is normally active in December, bringing evening showers mainly to the Northern, Eastern, and Central Provinces, and sometimes to parts of Uva as well.
The Department also denied rumours about a new depression forming near Sri Lanka.
“There is no reason to fear,” Ms Weerasinghe confirmed.
Travellers and residents are advised to stay updated, but no severe conditions are expected from the monsoon itself at this time.
