                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong data-start="126" data-end="155">Department of Meteorology</strong> says there is <strong data-start="170" data-end="192">no reason to panic</strong> about the Northeast monsoon, even though it is expected to become more active in the coming days.</p>
<p data-start="292" data-end="533">According to Duty Forecaster <strong data-start="321" data-end="342">Udeni Weerasinghe</strong>, the Northeast Monsoon is <strong data-start="369" data-end="400">normally active in December</strong>, bringing <strong data-start="411" data-end="430">evening showers</strong> mainly to the <strong data-start="445" data-end="489">Northern, Eastern, and Central Provinces</strong>, and sometimes to parts of <strong data-start="517" data-end="524">Uva</strong> as well.</p>
<p data-start="535" data-end="683">The Department also <strong data-start="555" data-end="573">denied rumours</strong> about a new depression forming near Sri Lanka.<br data-start="620" data-end="623" />“There is <strong data-start="633" data-end="654">no reason to fear</strong>,” Ms Weerasinghe confirmed.</p>
<p data-start="685" data-end="814">Travellers and residents are advised to stay updated, but no severe conditions are expected from the monsoon itself at this time.</p>]]></content:encoded>
